NBA Free Agency starts tonight

June 30, 2010

At midnight EDT tonight, it begins. NBA teams can officially begin speaking with this summer’s class of free agents, the best group in recent memory. The six teams with the necessary salary cap space (the New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers) will do their very best to win the hearts of a handful of the league’s best players, including LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson and Amar’e Stoudemire. The Knicks will fly to Ohio tomorrow to meet with the biggest prize of all, LeBron. They’ve spent the last two years clearing their roster of big money players, giving the Knicks the most salary cap space to sign one or even two players who could instantly bring a championship caliber (or at least a playoff caliber) team to New York after a league-high and club record nine straight losing seasons.

Tonight at midnight, MSG Network will launch a new show, Knicks Night Live, to discuss the start of free agency. Last night, a few Knicks superfans camped out in front of Madison Square Garden to earn an appearance on the show’s premiere. Photos by Avi Gerver, ©Madison Square Garden, L.P.
