Garden of Dreams Foundation’s Dream Week 2010
Earlier this month, the Garden of Dreams Foundation held Dream Week 2010, a unique summer camp experience for kids from a community center in the Bronx. The kids spent the fun-filled week meeting and participating in activities with players, performers, and personalities from all areas of Madison Square Garden plus Radio City Music Hall and the Fuse television network. While there’s no way to show it all in blog format, here’s a sample of activities from the week (photos by Avi Gerver, ©Madison Square Garden, L.P.):
New York Rangers legend Rod Gilbert teaches some kids to skate…
…and plays hockey with others:
After skating, the kids try on some NHL-sized hockey gear in the Rangers locker room:
Boxer Maureen Shea, best known as Hillary Swank’s main sparring partner in preparation for Swank’s Oscar-winning role in Million Dollar Baby, teaches some of her best moves at David Barton Gym:
The Radio City Rockettes show the kids how to perform their signature kick-line at Radio City Music Hall:
Decorating cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery:
A Knicks City Dancer and campers perform a dance routine:
Retired New York Knicks player John Starks gets immersed in basketball-themed pictionary…
…but his team ultimately loses in a tie-breaker much to the delight of the opposing team:
One by one the kids enter the gym, high-fiving the New York Liberty team, coaches, and mascot along the way:
Liberty head coach Anne Donovan chats with a camper:
Kids hit the red carpet at Planet Hollywood in Times Square…
…then head upstairs for a dance party before going to Madison Square Garden to enjoy a Lady Gaga concert:
The week ends with a Liberty game at Madison Square Garden, where kids welcome the team onto the court…
…and one lucky guy gets to toss up the ceremonial opening tip:
you have always nice things to post.
